Fiance Visa (Prospective Spouse) Weddings

Where one member of a couple is resident overseas and is applying to immigrate to Australia on a fiancé (Prospective Spouse) visa, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship requires that you provide proof of your intention to marry and that you actually marry within 9 months of arriving in Australia.

This means that you need to
  • Engage an authorised celebrant to marry you
  • Lodge a Notice of Intention to Marry with that celebrant
  • Obtain a letter from the celebrant advising the details of when and where you intend to marry.
The process is a simple. The partner who living in Australia (the sponsor) should make an appointment to meet with me. At that meeting you will need to

Discuss a date for the marriage and complete the Notice of Intended Marriage at the meeting show me
  • An official copy of your birth certificate
  • An official copy of your divorce certificate or death certificate of your late spouse if you have been married previously
  • Photocopies or scans of your fiancé’s documents
  • Pay the deposit (booking fee) for your ceremony so that I can confirm that you have made the booking (this fee is non-refundable and includes the cost of completing the Notice of Intended Marriage and the cost of the letter for the Department of Immigration)
I will then produce the official letter advising the Department of Immigration and Citizenship that you and your fiance intend to marry, the date and place for the proposed wedding (the suburb or city is sufficient), and that you have lodged the Notice of Intended Marriage and paid a nonrefundable deposit towards your eventual marriage.

Where necessary I will also provide confirmation direct to the case-officer handling your visa application.

As a Marriage Celebrant authorised by the Commonwealth of Australia to perform civil marriages ceremonies, it will be my pleasure to assist you. However, I cannot provide you with immigration information or advise you about which visa you should apply for. I strongly advise you to seek advice about those matters from a registered Migration Agent.
